My sister-in-law and I met you on the beach in Sanibel earlier in the month. I looked up your website and ordered a copy of your book LOST ANGEL WALKABOUT. I enjoyed reading it! My husband and I are adventuresome souls and like to read of different "travels". We've been to Alaska - the inside passage , Denali , Mt. McKinley , LOVED every minute of it and will be back! Our passion is paddling our custom made sea canoes , made by Verlen Kruger. Google him sometime....he's since passed away , but his paddling adventures will astound you. He was from the Lansing Michigan area which is how we connected with him. We live in Central Michigan. We've done a 2 month paddle down the Missouri river , starting in Helena , ending in St. Louis. Loved the history , the scenery , the people. I suggest paddling the Wild and Scenic section of river - from around Fort Benton on downstream. Some guides in the area. Beautiful! Our favorite place is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area outside Ely , MN. We do a trip every year there into the "backcountry" . Try that too! We both work on dairy farms to earn our living , but enjoy canoeing and camping whenever possible. I ride dressage and used to jump , love horses but have not ridden as much in recent years - my husband is NOT a horseman! Enough of me......loved your book. Keep traveling and enjoying what you do. A happy reader , Kathy Kurzhals   Jan 2011

Each time I receive a message from you I smile.  I so admire “your passion.”  You are a wonderful writer and very, very interesting.  I’ve always wanted to write and people have told me to write, but what you write about is so down-to-earth and positive.  I also admire how you balance your life.  Your love of nature is so refreshing.  I’ve always enjoyed nature and taking walks in out of the way places.   Merridy Cress

I've been reading your book myself over the holiday and am enjoying each story more than the last one as I learn more about your history, your dreams and challenges through every new adventure.

Thanks again for sharing, contributing to the book contest and becoming part of the family at YourLifeIsATrip.com. Warmest regards, Ellen Barone, December 2010

Hi Linda, thanks so much - so glad you are getting good reviews and feedback.   We did enjoy your book, and applaud you for being published.  Thanks sooo much for your posts on our sea turtle/kayak combo Baja tours...we hope to make that a regular thing and support the sea turtle researchers there.  We love sea turtles as they eat jellyfish - which are exploding in population in some parts of the world - we love those checks and balances in nature and hope they aren't disrupted in future. Warm regards, Nancy, Sea Kayak Adventures

Aloha Linda! (response to Interview with Healing Kumu Dane Silva)

What a GORGEOUS article, I love it! You are spot-on in your Hawaiian principles and understanding, and unfortuantley that’s a rarity among a lot of the writers who come here. Happy Labor Day weekend!   Jessica

Thank you so much! Thank you for being a guest at Na Hula O’ Wahine.. I am already loving your new  book Lost Angel Walkabout. I cheated and went straight to the Ireland chapter and I LOVED IT! Your writing is so beautiful, I could feel the mist and rain as you were riding the horse in the Irish Countryside. I am so intrigued with Ireland. I will now start from the beginning and try not to cheat. LOL However, the Hula Girl chapter sounds compelling. Anna Bella-Hula Sister

I started reading Wai-nani tonight. Nicely written and it’s a compelling story. You really have a sense of the Hawaiian life and culture and the imagination to bring an earlier time to life!

Dear Linda,

I read your book,I must admit, when I was researching Star Publish as a possible publisher for my own.  I loved it. The strength of your female character moved me. And I was very impressed with how you worked the language of Hawaii in.  You seem like a very well-rounded person, and I look forward to reading some of your travel articles.

Hello-  I got up  this Sunday morning and began to cruise my e-mails with idea of catching up on my pileup--they do pile up, don't they?  I got to your story which I had only looked at cursorily and settled in to really enjoy it--I do love the way you write, you know.

The upshot is that I got so relaxed from imagining myself there with you that I almost went back to bed.  I feel that my adventurous traveling days may be behind me but I am saving it just in case.  You never can tell.  Meanwhile thank you for keeping me on your list and keeping me dreaming and writing.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving  wherever you are.  Hugs,  Josette Wingo,

Good lord, Linda.  You've set the bench mark high!

So that's how it's done?

Amazing photos and descriptive writing!

We spoke when you were 'thinking' HI.

You connected well in HI and left.

And this is what a travel writer births!

I'm humbly impressed.

Thanks for your sharing.

Linda,
Did I say this article ("When the Whales Stop Singing it Will be Forever") is fabulous? It is. And...it is also very, very beautifully written. Well done. Very well done on many levels. Congratulations on reaching the level of writing such a well crafted and moving piece of work.

Yes, Wai-nani: High Chiefess of Hawaii - Her Epic Journey is now available just in time for summer travel season, too. With Linda's beautiful writing, descriptions, and input, I created the cover and absolutely love it. (And those who have worked one on one with me before know I'm my worst critic lol) It's a wonderful tale for anyone who ever wondered about the great Islands. I know I'll never think of them the same.

Hi Linda,
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your talk last night.  I didn't realize just how much historical fact, research and personal experience was actually woven into Wai Nani, and I enjoyed hearing so many things about the Hawaiian culture that I had never known before.  It was absolutely fascinating!  Your tidbits on how to make travel writing work for you were priceless and I can't wait to receive your article so that I can start making plans to get out amongst 'em and have someone else pay for it!

~Stephanie George

Dear Linda-
I met you Sunday morning at the Festival of Books.  I lived in Honolulu from 1969-1975 and bought a copy of your young adult fiction, Wai-nani.  We talked for quite a while at your booth.

I want to tell you how much I enjoyed the book.  The amount of research was awesome and your descriptions really sucked me into the atmosphere.  I had no idea big old Ka'ahumanu was so active physically in her youth.  I am a water baby but don't have nearly the strength and stamina described in Wai-nani.  I was sorry when the story ended.

~AnnHarris Hayes

It’s a lovely, complimentary, and accurate review. I’m so proud of your writing and your careful and attention to and beautiful description of the details that bring things into such good focus for readers. I agree, Wai-nani is the next best thing to being there.

~Barbara Milbourn

Congratulations!! The review is excellent and so true! Your star is shining brightly too, and deservedly so! I keep hoping there will be a sequel!!!!

Oh, Linda what a wonderful response! (to What Islanders are Saying about Wai-nani) I bet you cried like a baby.  I'm so proud of you and your accomplishment.  I have a feeling you will be invited back to Hawaii to speak about your book.  To have such praise from such a critical audience is the biggest gift.  But, then you earned it because you were so acutely aware the entire time you wrote, and because you have a deep respect and obvious love of the Hawaiian people and culture.

Congratulations!

~Donna Pekkonen

I thoroughly enjoyed your web page, especially your interview with Yvonne Perry.  Your description of the political and social undercurrents of Hawaii resonated with me, as I'm very aware how little visitors to the islands really know of the place.  We will surely have to get a copy of Wai Nani, which is written in that history/fiction genre that I very much enjoy.  Your writing, in general, evokes a very clear image of place and your photo collection is quite nice.

Hi, Linda -- I am Frances's "marine biologist" friend, Brinke. She'd loaned me your wonderful book, and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it.  The dolphin interaction scenes were  delightful.  You really made the historical time and place come alive with your vivid descriptions and good story-telling.  You're an  excellent writer and the book was a very fun read.

Sincerely,
~Brinke

Linda,
I have really enjoyed traveling with you. I spent the evening wandering through your website. Linda, I always knew you were a free spirit and an adventurer. Your writing and photos took me away from sherman oaks into a world that I am too much of a weeny to explore for myself. You are an inspiration. Can't wait to read your book.

I was sitting in a restaurant having a “working dinner”, reading my mail. I took a break by reading the Equestrian News newspaper, which I’d never seen before. I read a caption “Exploring California’s North Coast…..imagine my surprise when I realized it was ME and RICOCHET RIDGE RANCH  the article was raving about! Then I saw your by-line, and understood!
Again, I can’t thank you enough,

Thanks for sharing your writing, it actually made me want to consider going to one of those horse ranches even though I do not ride and tend to be afraid of horses. Take care. I anxiously await your article on our New England Hiking holiday.

Regarding: "It’s Heaven Dude". Excellent stuff. I can’t find a thing I would change. The first paragraph hooks you with some “you-are-there” tension and the tale unfolds gracefully. The perfect little side-step to explain the Lost Coast and its history, and then the wrap-up. Masterful
